By Dr Harbhajan Singh, 19 January, 1985 We take a lot of measures to think about various necessities only to live in the world, but hardly we think how to leave the world. But this is very important. Our purpose is now to think how the best way we can leave this world. There is too much attachment in the world, and with attachment pride and ego come there. In Gurbani it is said: Body is just like a mud and soul therein is like a frog; it jumps and it cannot leave the mud. And as we think that it is beyond our approach, we do not tackle this problem. Master says, "Your life is just like a bubble of water; you can look at the bubble, but you cannot catch it. You can enjoy its beauty how it forms and disappears, but you cannot catch it. You cannot have the control over it." Similarly, we can solve the mystery of death: It (the body) is a wonderful house we live in. But we do not have the control over it, because everything is in the hand of the Master Power, God Power. He is the indweller of this house. Unless until we do not become the conscious co-worker of the Divine Plan, it is beyond. There are four seasons in a year. Autumn is the season when the trees shed their leaves. Farid says: The tree is very unhappy. But this tree does not know that it has to get new leaves, buds will sprout forward, come up. Similarly, we to shed all our old, old habits just like a tree. This spring season is coming up shortly, let these things grow up! But this attachment is a very big problem. We are just like co-travellers going in a train. Some people cannot be travellers, they have to learn how to travel in the world. Some people go for one day from the home and they are very tired, and others move around the whole world and yet are not tired; they enjoy. What is the difference? You go in the train and you just want to make friendship with someone, want to talk, but it is only for a moment. You know the destination and this fellow also knows the destination where you have to go. We booked a seat and for that purpose we are not going to give away any inch of our seat. But when the destination comes, we have to leave it. We do not have any hold over it. And to the companion with whom we had a very good talk, we made a friendship, we can say, "We can meet some time later on." But since our destination has come, we separate. We don't say, "Because you have made friendship with me I want to go along with you." No, he is not a good traveller, he forgets (his destination). A good traveller says, "Good bye, I am going now, my destination has come." Master says, "Live in the world like this." You know that no one is going with you; no friend is going with you. When your destination comes, your soul has to go alone. You have to leave the train – this world. You cannot stay there. And others also know; they will not help you. But since all these things are there, we must know how to leave this attachment, the worldly things. Still pride and ego are there, but some Masters have told, "Alright, if there is pride and ego, use it for the Master!" Out of pride and ego develop love for the Master. Then it is also a good thing. If you are proud of something, use it for the Master and out of ego develop love for the Master Power. But since we use it for the food of the mind, it takes us to the wrong direction. Few days back we were talking about certain things from the teaching of Kabir. These are very, very important things that have been neglected so far. Kabir's teaching is very direct. And if there is some sort of controversies, outside or within, and we say it is humility not to clear these things, then we suffer ourselves and let others suffer for it. This is no humility! So Master has very direct way of expressing these things. He says, "Let people know the direct things. Let all know the thing in the very direct way, so that the exploitation is not there." Teachings from all the competent Masters are there, but the teaching of Kabir has a different tone. Belief in the Master must be there, then we develop receptivity. With receptivity we are more drawn to the Master's side and more belief is developed. As the intensity of our belief, so will be the comfort to our soul – not only here, but on the higher plane as well.You know, our Master said throughout His life, He had not many questions to His Master, because He already knew all these things: He had written "Gurmat Siddhant". But the intensity of His belief was hundred percent. He knew what He had to do right from the beginning. Even before He had gone to the holy feet of Baba Sawan Singh He knew it and expressed it to that Power which appeared to Him within. He said that it (these inner blessings) was sufficient now and started with the selfless service. Right from the beginning He did both: meditation and selfless service. Actually there are stages of a Master. Up to the third plane everything is within the three gunas.3 There is attachment, Up to three regions this is all for attachment. What is going on in the first, second or third region, it is all described by the Masters. There we have no rest and our attention does not work there hundred percent. By the grace of the Master, when our attention is withdrawn from these planes, it is only withdrawn by the Light and Sound. When it is completely withdrawn from (the regions of) the three gunas, our soul enjoys the celestial beatitude of the fourth plane. The fourth plane is the plane where Christ said, "I and my Father are One." Guru Arjan said, "Father and Son are dyed in one colour." It is a stage which is called "Sadhavasta". "Sadh" is a disciplined soul. When after this fourth plane the Master takes the disciple and the soul enters into the fifth plane, there he is called Sant, a saint. A power that is capable of going into the fifth plane is called a saint. He goes there, he can also take anyone He likes to that plane. It is the house of a saint. He gets power from above and uses it below. He works like a pipe: one end is attached above, and the second end is below. Whatever he sees or hears, he delivers down. His purpose is like this. When some disciples after leaving their body, they go there, He can only help them to hand over such souls to the Master of the sixth plane. He does not go Himself, He is dependent. He is independent in the fifth plane, but to transfer the soul to the sixth plane, He is dependent. He delivers. Similarly it is from the sixth (Alakh) to the seventh plane (Agam), and from the seventh to the eight (Anami). But when the saint travels through all these planes – Alakh and Agam – and goes up to the eighth plane of Anami, He is called Param Sant. Kabir came as Almighty Power. He came in all the four ages and controlled all; you already know it. So, Almighty Power is the Param Sant. He is God Himself. He is the controller of all the universe. He works at one time in all these planes, His control is everywhere in the world. And one thing that is very important: He does not leave the physical body till His work is finished. Outwardly we see that He has left the body, but He is capable of manifesting, materializing everywhere He likes. Many Masters left their body, but why Kabir did not leave it? He was even burnt in fire, it could not kill Him; He was Word Personified Form. So people did not know what has happened. He was thrown into the Ganges river, tied with a very strong chain of iron, but it was totally broken, and He was on the seashore. He went on doing His work. He had not given any importance to what had happened to Him. When somebody asked, "You were put in the fast waves, in the fast current of the water of the Ganges river", He said, "Yes, it was so strong that it had broken the iron chains. The water could break it." So, it is not like this, it was His power. In reality He is not dependent, He is independent. He knows what to do, what is reserved for us. He is very gracious. When He comes there is one significance; there is one beauty in Him – He says: "Come – let us go back home." He takes all souls back to God – in a moment, there is no stoppage. He may take you in any plane, He has His certain rule. Where He goes, He takes all souls back. But what He does? He takes the work and when He goes, He will take all such disciples with Him. Till then they are the conscious co-workers of the Divine Plan. At the time of Kabir many, many people were initiated, but hardly very few persons could know Him. This is why Master said: Such a time came, maybe hundred thousands years before, and now it is again like this. You read the history of many Rishis and Munis. They spent thousands of years of their precious life. They could not rise above the body consciousness. They were in the body and little bit above the plane of senses. But hardly very few could come to the astral plane. Normally the soul has to wind up its astral karmas, causal karmas, supercausal karmas. This takes much time. Maybe, some souls have to stay thousands of years to go back home. But one beauty with the Param Sant or the Almighty Power is that He takes us through this way direct there. It is His option. Some may have heard it when Master said: "You are fortunate that you are in contact with such a Master. Hundred thousands years before this Power came, now you are fortunate that you have a contact with that Power." That is the Almighty Power. You love Him – He will take you. If anybody remembers Him only two hours before his death, He is sure to come. This was spoken by the Master Power – He Himself told. At the time of death man is so much influenced by the negative powers and the tentacles of the mind, that he is miserably affected and he cannot get out of it. Just like a man who is in the prison and is locked from outside. Who can help him? But if some essence is there in man regarding reality or truth by having heard something about the Master Power, or if he even came in contact, if he saw the Master or had a little talk with Him, that will help him at the time of death. Master approaches there. The teaching of Guru Nanak reveals: "He who hears of this Power or comes into contact with It will never die nor be born again." Those who have seen the Master Power or heard the Satsang, even if they are not initiated, Master is helping them. When they withdraw from the body, Master Power is there to help them. That is the work of the Almighty Power. A saint is not made in one life; it takes a lot of time. So, this is according to general rule that such Power – the Almighty Power – comes at certain times to do the work Itself. When Kabir came, He materialized and manifested directly – He came directly, He had no parents. When He came, no one knew about His father, mother, because He Himself is the Father and Mother of everybody. He is the Almighty Power – the Father of everyone. He has no link, no relative, no brother, no sister. It was a time when people did not understand about the Almighty Power, is a Word personified Form, He is a Word made Flesh, nothing can happen. "But what about the soul, it is also the same essence of God. It is overpowered by the matter. It has now got layers after layers. Our effects that go direct on Him – He has to bear all these things. More karmas He bears, more quickly He will go. He knows when He has to go. So we clear the way for our Master. If Master would work independently, then no one would be needed. He could take all the souls back to God within the twinkling of an eye. But there is a rule: Those will go who help others! They are fortunate who help others, who sacrifice their wishes for others, because they are loved by God. They are the real disciples of the Master. Those who only meditate and have their wishes hidden with them, they cannot succeed. It is a very long road for them. But the approach to the Master power must be in the very rightist and highest way. Only this can help someone to solve the problems of him and others. If we are affected with little, little problems of our own, what can we help others? When Guru Nanak had to go out to teach other people in the world, his mother-in-law took his two sons in front of Him and said: "Nanak, if you had to go in the world, why you gave birth to these two children?" He said: "Mother, I know your intentions but I have risen above these things. Whatever the children deserve, is already given to them, don't worry about them, they will be helped by Him. Leave my way and let me go." The Masters had a destination and knew how to reach it. They never came into the entanglements of the home and home affairs, but had risen above (they put God on the first place and the world on the next). When they come into the world their purpose is very different (than that of the worldly people). They will say to you: "Leave anyone who hinders your way. There should be only He and you – He and the disciple – none else. " He makes us pure – direct. Why should one come in between? Why should those who are near and dear to us not also follow the God power? But if they come between the Master and the disciple, – let them be children, father, mother – they will loose their life and we also loose it, because this (the worldly attachment) is a shadow, they create a shadow and are also not on the right way. Master gives the awakening in practical way. He removes all misunderstanding. It is the work of the Almighty Power and we should get ready for it. Other Masters like Christ said: "Master has come with the sword, He separates one from another." His teaching is sharp like a sword. If it would be blunt it would not work. But with this sword He does not separate us but develops us. He makes us all as one. This sword is cutting all ill thoughts that separate us. Master expresses what is necessary in other way. He says, "Be more loving, give true love everywhere." If it is worldly love, it is attachment, if it is love in the name of the Father, it is His love. It will not create any separation. Master said, there are persons with right understanding everywhere in the world and they will all come together. Those who are not connected with the God-power or with Him, will not come, only those who are already attached to Him will come. So much assurance! Kabir said, first He burnt His house and now He is having the torch in His hand going from one house to another and wants to burn our houses. He will burn all our wishes and remove all our dirt. That is what He wants. Those whose house will be burnt will go along with you. |
